Senior Admissions

A School Where Young People Thrive

Choosing the right Senior School is about much more than examination results. It is about finding a community where your child will be challenged academically, supported pastorally and encouraged to develop the confidence, character and resilience needed to succeed in an ever-changing world.

At Stafford Grammar School, we believe every pupil deserves to be known as an individual. Our small class sizes allow teachers to understand each pupil’s strengths, aspirations and potential, ensuring they receive the support and encouragement needed to achieve their very best.

Our pupils benefit from a broad and ambitious curriculum, outstanding pastoral care and a wealth of opportunities beyond the classroom. Whether their passion lies in science, sport, music, drama, leadership or community service, we encourage every pupil to discover their strengths and pursue their ambitions with confidence.

From your first enquiry, our Admissions Team will guide you through every stage of the admissions journey. We encourage families to visit us, meet our staff and pupils, and experience the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes Stafford Grammar School such a special place to learn and grow.

Year 7 Admissions (11+ Entry)

For many pupils, the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 is an exciting milestone. At Stafford Grammar School, we work closely with pupils and families to ensure that transition is positive, supportive and enjoyable.

Prospective pupils are invited to attend one of our Assessment Days, held throughout the admissions cycle. These days are designed not only to help us understand a child’s academic strengths, but also to allow pupils to experience life as a member of our school community.

  • During their visit, pupils will:

    • Participate in engaging taster lessons
    • Take part in team-building activities
    • Meet current pupils and teaching staff
    • Enjoy lunch and refreshments in school
    • Experience a typical day at Stafford Grammar School

As part of the admissions process, pupils complete assessments in English, Mathematics, Creative Writing, and Puzzles and Problem Solving. These assessments help us understand how each pupil learns and how we can support them to achieve their full potential.

Following the Assessment Day, families are invited to attend an informal interview. This provides an opportunity for parents and pupils to ask questions, learn more about the school and discuss how Stafford Grammar School can support their child’s educational journey.

Successful applicants will receive a formal offer shortly after the completion of the admissions process.

Supporting a Smooth Transition

  • We understand that starting Senior School is a significant step, and we place great importance on helping pupils feel confident and prepared before September.

Offer holders are invited to attend dedicated transition events throughout the Spring and Summer Terms. These opportunities allow pupils to:

  • Meet future classmates
  • Get to know teaching staff
  • Experience Senior School life
  • Meet their Form Tutor
  • Build friendships before joining
  • Develop confidence ahead of their first day

By the time pupils begin Year 7, they already feel part of the Stafford Grammar School community.

Joining Us in Years 8–10

We welcome applications for Years 8, 9 and 10, subject to places being available.

Changing schools can feel daunting, but our experienced pastoral and admissions teams work closely with pupils and families to ensure a smooth transition into school life.

Prospective pupils are invited to spend a day with us, participating in lessons, meeting their future year group and experiencing the welcoming atmosphere of our school. Throughout the day, pupils are supported by current students who help them settle in and feel part of the community.

As part of the admissions process, pupils complete assessments in English, Mathematics, Creative Writing, and Puzzles and Problem Solving. These assessments help us understand each pupil’s strengths and identify how we can best support their progress.

Following the assessment day, families are invited to an informal interview before offers are made.

Where places are available, pupils may join Stafford Grammar School throughout the academic year.

Becoming Part of Our Community

We believe that joining a school is about becoming part of a community, not simply completing an admissions process.

Throughout the year, prospective families are warmly invited to attend concerts, productions, festivals and community events. These occasions provide an opportunity to experience the spirit of Stafford Grammar School and meet the pupils, staff and families who make our community so special.

From your first visit, we hope you will feel the sense of belonging that defines life at Stafford Grammar School.
