HEAD OF PREP

Welcome

At the Prep School, we take great pride in fostering a warm, family-like atmosphere where every child is valued as an individual. We believe that each student has unique strengths, and we are dedicated to encouraging and inspiring them to reach their full potential. Within our supportive and nurturing environment, we aim to cultivate both personal and academic growth, ensuring that every child feels cared for, respected, and empowered to thrive.

Welcome to the Prep School. I am Cheryl Martin and I am privileged to be Head of The Prep School and have been for 7 years. I have seen the Prep. School grow, as it has developed through each phase.

We are committed to offering an excellent academic education within a forward-thinking and dynamic curriculum, in a way that is rewarding and engaging for children, parents and staff.

We offer a rich and diverse experience for the whole school community including a wide range of academic, sporting, language and performing arts opportunities, plus an extra-curricular programme. Our forest school activities provide a lovely bridge between formal and informal learning, equipping the children with the skills they need to face uncertainty and change with courage and resilience.

Our children flourish in our nurturing environment which gives them the very best opportunities and start in their school life. The children build communication, teamwork and problem solving skills, as well as personal wellbeing.

Our curriculum is creative, broad and very well balanced, it is tailored to suit the needs of our children. Our small classes allow our teachers to get to know the children as individuals. Teachers adapt to bring out the best in each child and continually provide them with stretch and challenge them no matter where their learning is.

Our children are not afraid to make mistakes and we help them to understand that we learn from mistakes and they are important in learning.

The children are privileged to have specialist teaching in Music, PE/games and MFL from Reception. From Year 4 they have specialist teachers for most subjects which includes some staff from the senior school.

The facilities that the Prep children get to use are excellent; these include science laboratories, ICT suites, stage and drama studio, new dance studio and a very well equipped sports hall. On top of this we have extensive land for the children to play safely, experience a wide variety of sports and Forest School. We offer a wide variety of extra curricular activities to suit every child’s needs and hobbies such as gardening, drama, arts and crafts and sports. Children in our ‘Aim Higher’ scheme are able to perform in the senior school music ensembles; nothing makes me prouder when I watch a senior school concert and see a grey blazer sat in the middle of one of the groups. In the past we have also had children play in senior sports teams to ensure that the individual is challenged to their potential.

We offer peripatetic tuition in a variety of music instruments along with LAMDA, dance and tennis. All of these help promote confidence and talent; children can progress through exams and play for enjoyment. We offer wrap around school care from 8am until 6pm that families can utilise as they need to suit their arrangements. This is supervised by school staff who know your children; children complete their homework before enjoying the games and play equipment.

I warmly invite you to visit us to experience the school in action, meet our wonderful pupils and staff and appreciate all that the Prep School has to offer.
