Sixth Form Admissions
A Place to Shape Your Future
Choosing the right Sixth Form is a pivotal moment in a young person’s educational journey. It is about more than subject choices and examination results; it is about finding a setting where pupils are challenged academically, supported personally and encouraged to develop the independence, ambition and confidence needed for life beyond school.
At Stafford Grammar School Sixth Form, we provide an environment where pupils are treated as young adults and known as individuals. Our small teaching groups allow for highly personalised support, enabling pupils to thrive academically while developing the independence and self-discipline required for success at university, in apprenticeships and in future careers.
Our Sixth Form pupils benefit from expert teaching, small class sizes, a broad enrichment programme and outstanding pastoral care. Alongside academic study, they are encouraged to develop leadership skills, take on responsibility within the school community and build the confidence to pursue their ambitions with clarity and purpose.
From your first enquiry, our Admissions Team will guide you through every stage of the process. We warmly welcome prospective pupils and families to visit us, meet staff and current Sixth Formers, and experience the focused yet friendly atmosphere that defines life in our Sixth Form.
Joining Our Sixth Form (Year 12 Entry)
Entry into the Sixth Form is an exciting transition into greater independence and academic specialism. We welcome applications from both existing pupils and external candidates.
Prospective pupils are invited to attend a Sixth Form Open Event and, where appropriate, a taster experience. These opportunities allow pupils to explore subject options, meet teachers and gain a genuine sense of Sixth Form life at Stafford Grammar School.
During the admissions process, pupils will:
- Explore A Level subject choices with academic staff
- Attend an informal interview and guidance meeting
- Receive personalised advice on subject combinations and future pathways
- Meet current Sixth Form pupils
- Experience lessons in chosen subjects (where applicable)
Offers are made based on academic performance, predicted grades and suitability for chosen courses.
Supporting a Successful Transition
We recognise that moving into Sixth Form is a significant step towards greater independence. We would like to ensure pupils feel confident, prepared and well-supported from the outset.
Offer holders are invited to a an individual Taster Day as part of a wider transition programme, which may include:
- Induction and subject familiarisation sessions
- Opportunities to build relationships with peers and staff
- Guidance on expectations for Sixth Form study
- Transition work information for the summer break
By the time pupils begin in September, they should feel that they are already part of the Stafford Grammar School Sixth Form community.
External Applicants (Joining from Other Schools)
We warmly welcome applications from pupils joining us from other schools.
Our admissions team provides close support throughout the process to ensure a smooth and positive transition. External applicants are invited to visit the school for a guided tour, attend an informal interview and, where possible, spend time in lessons within their chosen subjects.
We understand that changing schools is a significant decision, and we work carefully with each pupil and family to ensure they feel confident in their choice and well supported as they join our community.
Becoming Part of Our Sixth Form Community
Our Sixth Form is built on a strong sense of community, purpose and mutual respect. Pupils are encouraged to contribute fully to school life, support younger pupils and take pride in being role models within the wider school.
Throughout the year, prospective families are invited to attend school events, including academic showcases, concerts, productions and enrichment evenings. These provide an authentic insight into the opportunities and spirit of Stafford Grammar School Sixth Form.
From your first visit, we hope you will feel the ambition, warmth and sense of purpose that define our Sixth Form experience.
