Recognising the individuality of each child and their diverse talents, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student can achieve their utmost potential.
Our admissions process is thoughtfully designed to offer families a comprehensive insight into our school, enabling them to assess if it aligns with their child’s needs and aspirations.
We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to acquaint ourselves with you and your family, guiding you through the admissions journey.

1. Get in touch
The first step in our admissions process is to get in touch with our Head of Admissions Mrs Reynolds, either by completing our Enquiry Form or by phone or email. Mrs Reynolds will be able to answer any questions you may have, and also talk you through our entry process for our Prep, Senior and 6th Form.
2. Visit
Mrs Reynolds will arrange for you to attend one of our Open Mornings and / or to come for an individual tour and meeting with the Headmaster and/or Head of Prep. We extend a warm invitation for you to explore Stafford Grammar School first-hand and witness the enriching experiences our children enjoy here. This provides a fantastic opportunity for families to see the school during a normal day and meet our dedicated teaching staff and pupils.
If your child is 2.1/5 they are more than welcome to join our Little Explorers on a Friday morning from 9.30am – 10.15am at the Prep school. This is based outside and children will learn to explore the outside adventures and making of music whilst having fun.
3. Taster Day/Entrance Assessment Day
We extend an invitation for your child to join us for a Taster Day. This offers a glimpse into a typical school day, providing an opportunity to interact with peer groups, meet teaching staff, and determine if Stafford Grammar School is the right fit for them. During the day they will complete our entrance assessment papers in English and Mathematics. Pupils who wish to join in reception, or KS1 do not have a formal entry, but are offered taster mornings/afternoons or full days to give them a chance to see how they feel and to ensure they are happy.
We appreciate each child’s learning will be different and may have been impacted by recent events. We therefore work with each child to see how best we can support them to reach their potential in the weeks, terms and years that follow.
Our Entrance Assessment for Year 7 takes place in October and January each year. Applicants sit tests in English and Maths. These are written by our school and are intended to be taken by pupils who come from a variety of school backgrounds. Applicants are assessed not only on their ability to cope with our curriculum on offer but also their willingness to make a full contribution to the life of the school.Â
Provided that spaces are available, pupils are also accepted into Years 8, 9 and 10, subject to passing our entrance examination papers. As part of the admissions process, pupils will also have a short interview with the Headmaster and we request a reference from their current school. All prospective pupils are offered a taster day with their peers.
We would encourage you to apply to join our 6th Form in the Autumn Term but you can apply throughout your final year of GCSE. We hold our Information Evening into our 6th Form each year in November. All of our A Level subjects will be represented and there will be an informal opportunity to speak with Heads of Department and our Assistant Head/Head of 6th Form. We offer an Experience Day in February. Pupils who are looking to join us will spend the day with our current pupils and will attend lessons and have the opportunity to ask questions.
Throughout the whole process Mrs Reynolds will be on hand to answer any questions. We look forward to welcoming you to Stafford Grammar School.

We believe in fostering a sense of community and understanding within our school, and this interview is a crucial step in that process. The interview also gives families an opportunity to ask any questions to our headmaster about our school and the education we provide.
It allows us to appreciate the diverse backgrounds, interests, and aspirations of each family member, ensuring that Stafford Grammar School is not just an educational institution but a supportive and inclusive community tailored to your family’s unique dynamics.
