Our History
Founded in 1982 with just 17 pupils, Stafford Grammar School began with a vision of a co-educational day school offering small classes and high academic standards.
1980s
EXPANSION AND INNOVATION:
The 1980s saw significant growth and development at Stafford Grammar School, with new facilities and programs enhancing the educational experience.
About Stafford Grammar School
The founding Headmaster, supported by three part-time staff, set the foundation for a school where children would be safe, happy, and stimulated. Today, the school has grown to 423 pupils and 50 teachers, boasting a thriving Sixth Form.
The curriculum, while based on the National Curriculum, offers flexibility and a wide range of options at both GCSE and A level, with customary class sizes not exceeding 20 students.
Stafford Grammar School is a non-denominational Christian foundation, guided by moral and ethical teachings. Its mission is to provide the necessary encouragement and support to help each individual realise their potential, believing that everyone can succeed given the right conditions.
1990s
TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS:
The 1990s brought the integration of new technologies into the curriculum, preparing students for the rapidly changing digital world.
2000s
EXCELLENCE AND ACHIEVEMENT:
The 2000s were marked by academic excellence and numerous achievements, cementing the school’s reputation as a leading educational institution.
About Stafford Grammar School
The school is housed in a beautiful Victorian manor house designed by Augustus Pugin, situated on 22 acres of grounds that include sports pitches, tennis courts, and extensive specialist facilities. In 2007, a new Science and Sixth Form Centre was opened, and an additional 16 acres of sports land was recently acquired to further develop team sports facilities. Other recent additions include a sports hall, music centre, cafeteria, additional classrooms, two new ICT rooms, a library, and a refurbished reception and conference suite.
Stafford Grammar School has established a formidable academic reputation, becoming a recognized centre of excellence with many students gaining admission to top universities.
A wide range of extra-curricular activities are available, with major sports well-represented and many successes at county, midlands, and national levels. The school has a thriving Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and the Sixth Form students run Young Enterprise Companies and engage in community service. Drama and music are vibrant components of school life, with regular public performances both at the school and in the local community. Individual peripatetic music and LAMDA drama lessons are also available to students.
