We asked pupils to reflect on the theme of kindness for Kindness Week. 7F was particularly forthcoming in spreading kindness and we wanted to share their actions with our wider school community.
It was lovely to hear of pupils spreading happiness to their older relatives. Eloise painted a rainbow for her Nan and sent it to her to put in her window. Her Nan reported that it had had lots of attention from passers by. Paige and her brother also painted pictures for their Nanti to put in her shed window and enjoy. Paige is a very talented artist so I am sure she loved that. Bella’s Nan gave her some knitting needles older than her mom and Bella was so grateful that she made her something with them.
Ruby has combined an act of kindness with her ‘individual challenge’. She learnt how to make peppermint creams and gifted them in beautiful bags with lovely messages to her neighbours.
Some pupils have gone out of their way to do nice things for their lockdown partners- their family! Making food has been a popular way to be kind at home. Annabelle made a Lamb Tagine for the family to enjoy and Bella learnt how to make lemon drizzle cake, for example.
Some of our pupils were grateful to be on the receiving end of kindness. Paige’s Mum bought her two new sketchbooks as a surprise. One of Sam’s friends gifted him a skin on fortnite and Ruby’s sister bought her a Starbucks drink.
You know the saying – what goes around, comes around – and it is the same with kindness. Livvy told us how she had taken her baby sister out to help out her parents. While she was out, her older sister tidied her room and made her a little gift. Another of Livvy’s friends sent her a surprise hamper of chocolate! Lucky her!
One thing that 7F agrees on is that it is the small gestures of kindness that go the furthest. A hug to a family member or a video call to a friend – these are the things that people appreciate the most. Adam reflected: “one smile, or in the case of the Thursday Evening clap for carers, one clap, can spread 200 miles.”
7F’s ideas to spread kindness

- Breakfast in bed.
- Go on a nice walk together
- Make them a homemade gift/edible or not (like a drawing)
- Give them a hug
- Post inspirational sticky notes around the house
- Make a treasure hunt around the house
- Facetiming them – Eloise was pleased to receive video calls on her birthday.
- Send a card or present.
- Play games with them. Adam has been hosting virtual chess sessions with friends and family.
- Help someone in an online game.
- Draw a friend a picture.
- Compliment someone.
- Donate to a charity
- NHS clapping
- Say ‘Hi’ when you cross paths with someone on your daily walk.
- Practice self-kindness and spend 30 minutes doing something you love.
