Admissions & Fees
Stafford Grammar School accepts entrants into Year 7, into Years 8, 9 and 10 if places are available and into the Sixth Form. We invite all prospective families, both parents and children, to come for a tour of the school during the working day to see lessons and activities in progress; it is important to gain a feel for the school before making a commitment and provides a great opportunity to ask questions of both staff and pupils.
Admission is by examination, reference and interview.
Assessment days for Year 7 entry are available in June of Year 5 and November of Year 6. The formal examination consists of standardised GL/NFER tests in Verbal Reasoning and Mathematics plus an assessment of English ability using school produced comprehension and creative writing exercises.
Entrance assessments are designed to identify the top 40% of the national ability range (105/140 on the age adjusted standardised papers). There is a charge of £25 for the entire assessment day which includes lunch. Please contact the Headmaster’s Secretary on 01785 249752 for further details. Extra information is also available in the booklet which can be viewed below.
Sample Assessments are available to download here.
Sixth Form Admission
Entry into the Sixth Form is by interview, reference and conditional upon GCSE results.
Fees from January 2018 are £4138 per term throughout Stafford Grammar School from Year 7 to Upper Sixth Form. This fee is inclusive of text books and almost all curriculum materials and most extra-curricular activities. It excludes school uniform and sports kit, optional cafeteria school lunches, transport to and from school, public examination fees, school trips and any peripatetic activities or lessons such as in music, LAMDA or dyslexia/educational support.
Scholarships and Bursaries
A limited number of Scholarships (academic, sporting and music/drama) and Bursaries (means tested, based on household financial circumstances) are available. Further information about eligibility is available from the Headmaster’s Secretary. The maximum scholarship award is 50% of school fees and the maximum bursary award is 50% of school fees.
“Governors’ Awards” also provide annual scholarships for the most successful 3 students in each year group.
There is a deduction of 10% from the fees of the elder sibling if two siblings are at Stafford Grammar School at the same time. If there are three siblings at Stafford Grammar School at the same time, 20% is deducted from the fees of the eldest and 10% from the middle sibling. The same sibling fee discount applies in Stafford Preparatory School but it does not apply across the two schools. Bursary recipients cannot receive additional sibling discounts, but the level of bursary award for the elder sibling will be reviewed if a younger sibling joins Stafford Grammar School.
